Oregano essential oil is specifically for fighting bacterial infections, antibiotics are one of the medical doctors’ favorite tools for treating many health issues. But there’s another underutilized natural “medicine” that many doctors don’t tell their patients about oregano essential oil (also called oil of oregano).
Oregano is a powerful, plant-derived essential oil that may rival antibiotics when it comes to treating or preventing various infections. Oregano essential oil is an incredible natural antibiotic because it contains carvacrol and thymol, two powerful compounds with anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties.
Oregano essential oil’s warm, herbaceous scent is excellent at purifying the air when diffused with oils such as Peppermint. Oregano essential oil is an effective natural antibiotic and antifungal agent, and it may help you lose weight and lower your cholesterol levels.
Oregano has been a precious commodity for over 2,500 years and a popular folk medicine remedy. Hippocrates, the ancient Greek Physician and who’s the father of Western medicine used oregano as an antiseptic for treating respiratory and digestive diseases.
Ancient Greeks believed Oregano was a useful poison antidote and used it extensively to treat skin infection, sore throats, wounds ad viral infections.
Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioners have also used Oregano for generations to treat diarrhea, parasite, and fungal infections.
WHAT IS OREGANO ESSENTIAL OIL?
Oregano (Origanum vulgare) is an herb that is a member of the mint family (Labiatae). Oregano has been considered a precious plant commodity for over 2,500 years in folk medicines that originated across the globe. It has a very long use in traditional medicine for treating colds, indigestion and upset stomachs.
Oregano means “delight of the mountains” in Greek, as it was first used in Ancient Greece for its antibacterial properties. Often mistaken for marjoram, oregano is a popular culinary and fragrant herb that’s best known as an ingredient in Italian food, commonly found on pizzas.
Although not used in modern aromatherapy, oregano has been traditionally used as an herbal remedy for digestive disorders, aches, and pains, respiratory conditions and skin problems.

Safety: Oregano is a hot oil and should be diluted with a carrier oil when used topically.
- Avoid use during pregnancy – as oregano essential oil may cause embryotoxicity; or on infants and small children.
- It may cause Irritants to the skin and mucous membranes when used topically, so dilute it with a carrier oil and test on a small patch of skin first.
- If using internally, do not use for more than 10 days. After 10 days, take a break for one week.
Twenty clinical strains of bacteria were tested on patients with different clinical conditions. Oregano essential oil was active against all tested strains. A 2014 found that oregano oil has powerful anti-viral properties against non-enveloped murine norovirus, a human norovirus surrogate, in some cases inactivating the virus within an hour of exposure. 2| Gilling, DH. High in antioxidants, which can help prevent damage by neutralizing disease-causing free radicals, may also aid in cancer prevention and reduce inflammation.
Contains certain compounds that have potent antibacterial properties. Carvacrol and thymol are two compounds found in oregano that have been shown to
decrease the activity of viruses.
Available either fresh, dried or as an oil, and it can be added to stews, dressings, sauces, and meats.

1. Natural Antibiotic:

Prevent bacterial overgrowth and colonization in the large intestine, and it helps protect the body from toxicity, dilute it with a carrier oil and apply it topically to the soles of your feet or take it internally for 10 days at a time and then cycle off.
2. Battles Candida and Fungal Overgrowth
Oregano essential oil can be used to treat fungi and yeast such as candida. Oregano can treat toenail fungus when used topically. For internal use, take 2 to 3 drops twice daily for up to 10 days.
3. Fight Pneumonia and Bronchitis
Oregano essential oil helps prevent or fight pneumonia, bronchitis and other types of bacterial infections. For external infections, apply 2 to 3 diluted drops to the affected area. To prevent internal bacterial overgrowth, ingest 2 to 3 drops twice daily for up to 10 days.
4. Fight Intestinal Worms and Parasites
Because oregano essential oil has anti-parasitic and anti-viral properties, it can be used internally to combat parasitic infections. Take oregano oil internally for up to 10 days.
5. Help Removes Warts and Skin Tags
One of the more common uses of oregano oil is its ability to safely diminish and possibly remove warts. When using oregano essential oil for removing warts, make sure to dilute it with another oil or mix it with clay.
6. Cleanses Mold From The Home
Oregano is effective at eradicating mold growth around your home. Add 5 to 7 drops to a homemade cleaning solution along with tea tree essential oil and lavender or lemon.
